Our Journey at a Glance
A Decade of Purpose
The Beginning
WIM Ghana was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, founded by pioneering women professionals, academics, policymakers, and industry players who recognised the significant gender imbalance in Ghana’s mining sector and decided to act.

Building the Foundation
The early years focused on institutional formation, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with the Minerals Commission, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and development partners. A major milestone was the creation of a national database of women in the mining industry.

The Junior Club
WIM Ghana launched its flagship youth empowerment programme — the Junior Club — targeting high school girls in mining communities with career guidance, mentorship, and STEM exposure. The initiative demystified mining for a new generation.

Resilience Through the Pandemic
When COVID-19 disrupted in-person operations, WIM Ghana pivoted to virtual conferences, webinars, and digital campaigns — maintaining momentum while addressing emerging challenges for women in mining.

Shaping National Policy
WIM Ghana has played a critical role in national dialogues on mining governance. Members have participated in consultative sessions on mining policies, gender mainstreaming strategies, and environmental reforms — advocating for maternity-friendly workplace policies, inclusive recruitment processes, and safety for women miners.

Scaling Impact
Expanded mentorship to all 16 regions, surpassed 1,500 active members, participated in national mining governance dialogues, and launched new programmes in climate change, responsible mining, and gender mainstreaming.

“WIM Ghana remains committed to its core values of empowerment, inclusivity, integrity, collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and excellence. The organisation believes that when women rise, the entire mining sector — and by extension, the national economy — benefits.”
